Approval for use in Clinical Trials

The Smart System® is approved for clinical trials by the JAEB center in Tampa Florida. Designed and developed by industry professionals, the eETDRS protocol has become the standard in vision testing. The subject simply verbalizes what is displayed on the monitor and the clinician simply selects “correct” or “incorrect”. Depending upon the clinician input, the algorithm advances to the next display and again the subject verbalizes what is displayed and so on. Through a complex series of steps the ETDRS numerical score along with a standard visual acuity score is displayed on the LCD monitors. Since this is computer algorithm based, technician error or bias is virtually eliminated allowing the score to be a true and accurate visual acuity score. The subject results can then be securely transmitted to any location or exported to a standard ASCII file, CSV spreadsheet or text file. Significant cost savings are recognized in data collection and dissemination when using this protocol in clinical trials. 

Easy to use, efficient with repeatable results, the eETDRS protocol ship standard on each Smart System 20/20. The system can be selected and used via wireless remote control for clinic use or to participate in clinical trials (additional hardware required).

Hardware

The eETDRS or ATS systems can be installed on virtually any hardware including lap tops, desk tops or tablet PC’s. In a permanent installation these protocols simply run parallel with any Smart System® product.
